Pipe - Exemplar of Vincent Van Gogh's Chair National Gallery - 1888 & 2017 original period pipe
Anthony D Padgett
Stand: 615
Rare 19th century French pipe. Perhaps the only and finest surviving example of a pipe similar to Van Gogh's that symbolised himself on a chair in his 1888 painting.
After visiting the Amsterdam Pipe Museum and extensive research Padgett has sourced this pipe.
These pipes disintegrate with use (hence the blackened rim in the pipe in the painting). Very few survive.
