Virgo the Virgin is an earth sign and corresponds to the planet Mercury. The sign is associated with Astraea, a figure from Greek mythology. Astraea was the last immortal to abandon Earth at the end of the Silver Age when the gods fled to Olympus, which is why Virgo is associated with Earth.

Rivers' image is dominated by a welter of sky-blue paint brushed on in a virtuoso display of kinetic energy that sweeps across the glittering constellation of gold stars. Calligraphic, flower-like forms hover at the margins of this turbulent space.
