I gather scattered pieces of me

Paula Dunn Stand: 924

I gather scattered pieces of me explores the quiet stillness and sense of solitude found in the vast openness of the northern moorland. Alone in this expansive landscape, with the weather moving all around you, there is a particular kind of peace that comes from being immersed in the elements. The still surface of the water offers a moment of calm. It is a place to pause, to watch and to lose yourself in the changing moods of the landscape.

Built up through layers of oil paint, the richly textured surface captures the interplay of light, weather and water. Subtle variations in colour and expressive mark-making evoke the movement of clouds and the changing character of the land, while delicate touches of gold leaf trace pathways and catch the light, bringing moments of luminosity to this otherwise quiet and contemplative scene.
