In all this space I am reduced to my essential nothing

Paula Dunn Stand: 924

In all this space I am reduced to my essential nothing captures the profound sense of solitude that comes from walking alone across the northern moors. Here, you can walk for miles without encountering another soul, surrounded by a landscape that is both harsh and beautiful. Vast skies stretch overhead, views reach for miles and the only company might be the grouse rising from the heather. The weather is never still for long; light shifts across the land, illuminating your way, while the wind whips clouds across the sky and transforms the landscape in a matter of minutes. There is something deeply humbling about being immersed in such a vast, open space, where you become acutely aware of just how small you are within it.

Built up through layers of oil paint, the richly textured surface echoes the marks and rhythms of the land. Layers of shifting colour and movement create a sense of depth, drawing you into the landscape and its ever-changing atmosphere. The painting seeks to capture not just the physical experience of being on the moors, but that feeling of quiet insignificance and freedom that comes from finding yourself alone in all that space.
