This large (70x70cm) acrylic fruit ‘portrait’ captures the magnificence of the humble British pear.
The process of intense study and the time required to paint two pears at such scale means that I begin to imagine a coversation between the subjects. Their proximity to one another affects how their colours interplay.
I have enriched and heightened the colours, depicting the fruit as if they were actors spot-lit on a stage.
The golden glow which surrounds them is gold leaf - a beautiful, delicate and resilient material which captures and reflects light, making the artwork appear different from various angles and at different times of day.
Finished with 3 layers of varnish to seal the painting and protect it from UV and dust.
