Gyotaku impression taken from Octopus Vulgaris (unframed)

Jane Evans Stand: 953

This print measures 90x80cm and is the largest octopus I've ever printed.

Gyotaku process sees ink applied to the surface of the specimen and then paper is pressed onto the surface making an impression.  Each time an impression is taken, the specimen has fesh ink applied and the pressing is done gently by hand.  This means that no two pressings will ever be the same so you are always guaranteed a completely unique piece of art.

Octopus are incredible animals and I always feel it's a privelage to have one to work with.  I take great care of my specimens and print them as many times as I can, I really don't want to see them go to waste.
