‘Life is a constant digesting of emotions, sensations, feelings, observations I contemplate through the process of painting. Why today was I drawn to a dying flower, and its curled form on my daily walk, those leaves falling from the trees? How might that observation, committed to memory or remembered as a sensation translate in my work in the studio within the flow state of painting? What significance do my observations have in mirroring my internal state? What am I projecting on those forms and how will those moments translate through my work? How, has that conversation left me feeling and what energy do I need to relinquish from it onto the canvas or paper? How can I express so much using colour relations with a limited form to maintain ambiguity and allow the viewer to connect in their own meaningful way?’

Adèle spontaneously works with colour and marks, layering and scraping away, finding the pared down and suggestive forms as they emerge through the paint and oil pastel until they mirror something that resonates. 

Metaphorical forms for autobiographical expression. A constant wonder and comment on relationships, life, death, cycles in nature, within herself and within her close and wider environments. Her work is a continual journey as she travels through it, through different life stages with all its challenges and moments of joy. They all get mixed up and expressed through her work so the work is always evolving, deeply personal and changing to reflect this. 

Adèle graduated in 1999, has exhibited across the UK and has work in private collections. Previously a self-promoting artist, she learnt the business side of art as a gallery assistant in London’s West End and was a curator for the Sidney Cooper Gallery after completing a Postgraduate Certificate in Fine Art Management. Her paintings and promotional skills attracted local and national press attention, particularly for her solo exhibitions in Greenwich and Docklands. Adèle then took a long break from her artistic career to raise her children. Painting for Adèle is a deep inherent need for expression that cannot be rushed nor dictated in production. Adèle only creates original one-off pieces that evolve at their own pace.
