Manchester Academy of Fine Arts
Stand: 302
Bohuslav Barlow is a Todmorden-based painter whose work explores the interplay between the enchanting and the unsettling. Drawing on influences from Romanticism and Surrealism, his paintings combine an idiosyncratic visual language developed over five decades with imaginative and often enigmatic imagery.
Born in Czechoslovakia and raised in Bavaria before settling in England, Bohuslav's experiences of displacement, travel and cultural change have shaped his artistic outlook. His ongoing series Charms and Chimera reflects a fascination with the things that both charm and disturb.
A graduate of London's Central School of Art, he has exhibited widely in the UK and internationally, with work held in private collections worldwide.
