Although of Igbo descent (South-eastern Nigeria), Okey has tapped into the nation's diverse advantages and can be seen in some of his works, influences from Uli (South-eastern Nigeria), Benin art, Yoruba human forms and some aspects of Nok culture.
His relief works are possibly influenced by the panel works of El Anatsui, whom the younger artist has had the privilege of receiving tutelage from.
He trained at the University of Nsukka Art School.
