Ella McIntosh

Studio 9 & 10/11 - Manchester Craft and Design Centre

Ella McIntosh is a contemporary metalsmith blending modern design with traditional craftsmanship, her work celebrates lead free pewter as a material of elegance, versatility, and enduring beauty. Ella is driven by a passion for design and material exploration whilst pushing the boundaries of contemporary pewtersmithing to create sculptural vessels, homeware, and bespoke commissions.

Since she established her Manchester studio in 2012, her designs have received numerous awards, recognising both technical excellence and creative originality. Her pieces have been exhibited in leading galleries and craft exhibitions across the UK including the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, London Craft Week and The Worshipful Company of Pewterers.

She incorporates repeated textures and designs directly inspired by her surroundings – the landscapes of her Lancashire childhood, and the ever-changing cityscape of Manchester. She uses cast panels to ‘construct’ her designs, using the inherent repetition of the castings to create abundance of texture and recurrence of visual effect. By combining the repeated action of prefabricated and modular cast panels with highly polished sheet metal elements she is able to create towering contemporary objects.
