Greg Deda
Canadian Contemporary Artist | Born 1965
Greg Deda is an internationally recognised Canadian contemporary artist whose distinctive practice spans Magic Realism, abstraction and semi-abstraction. Born in 1965 and based in Toronto, Deda has developed an extraordinary artistic language that combines the technical precision of classical European painting with the imagination, emotion and experimentation of contemporary art.
In 1996, Deda pursued his passion for Renaissance art at the Scuola dei Beni Culturali in Italy, now part of the University of Salento. Deeply influenced by the works of Michelangelo, Botticelli and Mantegna, he developed a profound appreciation for classical composition, the human form and the intricate techniques of the Old Masters.
His artistic journey later took him to Germany during the post-Berlin Wall period, where he attended Kunst Schule and encountered the creative philosophies of influential artists including Gerhard Richter and Jörg Immendorff. These experiences helped shape his transition towards modern expression, abstraction and his distinctive interpretation of Magic Realism.
Deda’s compositions explore mythology, philosophy, architecture and the relationship between reality and imagination. His Magic Realism paintings create mysterious, dreamlike environments, while his abstract works employ powerful colour, movement and texture to evoke emotional responses and encourage individual interpretation.
Over the course of his career, Deda’s work has been exhibited internationally, including in Toronto, New York, London, Munich, Düsseldorf and Turin, attracting the attention of collectors across Europe and North America.
Represented by Aurum Fox, Deda has entered a significant new chapter in his career, with increasing international exposure, notable auction results and high-profile cultural collaborations, including a showcase during London Fashion Week 2026.
Today, Greg Deda continues to develop a diverse and compelling body of work that bridges centuries of artistic tradition with contemporary innovation, establishing a distinctive presence within the international fine art market.
