Holly Jones

Degree Art Gallery Stand: 406

Holly Jones is a contemporary sculptor and printmaker whose work explores aspects of humanity through bold colour, form, and texture. Central to her practice is the process of assemblage, the meticulous arrangement and layering of diverse materials and found objects to construct narratives that examine identity, connection, and the effects of an increasingly consumer-driven world.
Her recent body of work draws inspiration from the rituals of daily commuting, reflecting on the tension between individuality and community within urban life. Through a series of fifty stylised MDF figures, each built from multiple layers to create depth and dimension, Jones captures the anonymity of the modern commuter, their bodies vessels for transit, their postures quietly expressive. Belongings, treated as extensions of the self, become symbols of consumerism and personal identity.
Colour and surface play a crucial role in her sculptures. Using saturated, premixed tones and smooth, airbrushed finishes, Jones achieves a deliberately industrial aesthetic; one that mirrors the environments she studies while maintaining a playful, graphic quality. Her work invites reflection on the rhythms of contemporary existence, revealing beauty, humour, and poignancy within the everyday.
