Mark Beattie Stand: 623
Mark Beattie MRSS is an award-winning British sculptor whose work explores movement, fluidity and the relationship between material and space. In 2015, he won the Midlands Open and Xerxes Sculpture Prize and was elected to the Royal Society of Sculptors. His subsequent recognition includes shortlisting for the Open Contemporary Young Artist Award and the international Rise Art Prize in 2017.

Working across scales, from miniature to monumental, Mark creates abstract sculptures using metals, contrasting finishes and, more recently, neon light. His distinctive practice balances physical form with negative space, often incorporating circles, spirals and flowing curves. Fascinated by the circle’s harmony and unity, he considers it an abstract symbol of happiness, creating sculptures that encourage contemplation and tranquillity.

Mark introduced light into his work in 2015, using neon to bring additional energy, movement and emotional resonance to his metalwork. Through colour, texture and material contrasts, he explores how sculpture can influence perception and emotion, while leaving space for individual interpretation. His work seeks to transcend cultural backgrounds and offer moments of reflection within everyday life.

Mark holds a BA (Hons) in Contemporary Art Practice from Leeds University and an MA in European Arts Practice from Kingston University. He has exhibited in over 80 solo and group exhibitions, with work held in private and corporate collections across Europe, Asia, South America, Australia and the USA.
