Paula Dunn

Paula Dunn Stand: 924

Paula Dunn is a Yorkshire-based landscape painter whose work captures the shifting moods of the land. Drawn to wild places and the elemental forces that shape them, she finds inspiration in walking – observing how light, weather, and season transform the familiar into the unexpected.

Working in oils and cold wax, Paula creates paintings that are rich in texture and layered with memory. Her practice has moved from direct representation towards more abstract evocations of place, where form dissolves into colour, and detail gives way to atmosphere.

“I begin without a map or destination. Colour leads the way. I build the foundations in layers – marks, textures, and glazes – letting the painting reveal itself over time. The landscape emerges slowly, sometimes holding on to its contours, sometimes dissolving almost entirely into abstraction.”

Paula’s work is held in private collections around the world. She is a contributing artist to the award-winning Waymaking – an anthology of prose, poetry and artwork by women inspired by the landscape (Vertebrae Publishing). Her forthcoming book, Atmospheric Landscapes: Using Oils and Cold Wax, will be published by Crowood Press in October 2025, with advance copies available during the exhibition.
