Joanna Whittle

Joanna Whittle is a painter based in Sheffield. She is Vice Chair of Contemporary British Painting  and was winner of the prize in 2019. This year she was shortlisted for  first prize for the John Moors Painting  Prize and has been an exhibitor in 2018 and 2023.  In 2020  she was winner of the New Light prize.  She is a lead artist for the Contemporary Art Academy and a founding member of the Heavy Water  Collective.  She has exhibited widely including in solo shows at the Whitaker Museum, Welbeck Estate, Museum of London and Charlie Smith London; and in group exhibitions at Saatchi Gallery,  Freelands Foundation, Site Gallery, Collyer Bristow,  Huddersfield Art Gallery, Attenborough Arts Centre, Highlanes Public Gallery, Ireland, APT Gallery,  Tullie House Museum, Newcastle Contemporary Art, Sheffield Museums and GroundWork Gallery. Upcoming and current exhibitions include group exhibitions at the Liang Art Gallery (Newcastle) and Leeds Art Gallery.  In December of this year she is curating ‘Unquiet Landscapes’ at  Yorkshire Artspace and ‘Gathering Landscapes’ with Heavy Water Collective at Weston Park Museum, celebrating 150 years of  Sheffield Museums collections. She is a graduate of Central St Martins and the Royal College of Art.
