Matilda Wainwright

The Pearls Stand: 216

Matilda returned to her first instinct:  painting, by way of a career as an Art Director in the film industry. Living in Paris, Sydney, Dubai and a few other places in between, then latterly in London, she established her painting practice at Thames Side Studios.  During this time she co-founded the East Wing group of artists who showed regularly together and completed 2 semesters at City and Guild School of Art in Kennington on the MA Fine Art program.

After moving to the northwest, she took up a place on the MFA Painting program at Manchester School of Art in 2019, graduating with distinction in 2024. Since then she has been included in group shows all over the UK, most recently at Oceans Apart Gallery in Salford, the A_ Place Gallery in Glasgow and the Lido Stores in Margate. Her work is held in private collections all over the world, including New Zealand, UAE, USA, Europe and the UK.  Working at large and small scale in oils and sometimes watercolour and gouache her work reflects her endless exploration of colour, time and space, enquiring into the relationship between matter and the metaphysical and the universality of all things. Matilda’s studio practice is based at OA Studios in Salford, also often painting in the landscape that surrounds her home in rural Cheshire. She founded the FG Gallery (@thefggallery) in Cheshire in 2023, curating regularly there and elsewhere.
