Momoka Gomi

Momoka Gomi is a Japanese-born, UK-based textile artist whose work explores memory and the passage of time through the meditative process of handweaving. Working primarily with denim—cut, frayed, and transformed—she creates textured surfaces that evoke fading, erosion, and renewal. Subtle interventions with bleach, abrasion, and fine gold lines become traces of change, celebrating both fragility and resilience within the material.
Rooted in traditional craft training since her teens, Gomi carries forward its discipline while reimagining weaving in a contemporary context. Her practice has been recognised by the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST) and she was selected for the 35 Under 35 award by the King’s Foundation, affirming her position as an emerging voice in textile art.
Through her woven works, Gomi preserves and transforms: holding memory within material while allowing it to shift, fade, and find new forms of expression.
