Candice Dehnavi is a sculptor from Devon and is based in London. The works we are bringing to Manchester Contemporary are large solum fingers sprouting from the ground as if reaching out from somewhere below. Some also bear small bronze figures, depicting symbols of Djinns from old Persian mythology.
The work explores:
– mythology and astrology
– dreamlike imagery
– absurd world-building
– storytelling across cultures
– Iranian and English upbringing
– cultural familiarity and estrangement
– playing with scale
– artefacts from unknown stories
– alien forms emerging
– old Persian zodiac symbols
– djinns and spirits
– visual poetry
– tales passed down through generations
