Paulis Liepa
Paulis Liepa is one of the best-known contemporary Latvian printmaking artists. His distinctive and recognisable style employs fundamental graphic techniques, such as collagraphy, cardboard cut, and silkscreen. The aesthetics of Paulis Liepa’s works are shaped by various influences from the modernist graphic culture of the 20th century, including design, architecture, and engineering blueprints, with a particular focus on the visual aesthetics of the 1960s and 1970s.
In his works, he addresses various philosophical questions and contemporary events, ranging from military conflicts to everyday objects and themes like the street, news, and advertising.
Paulis Liepa (1978) graduated from the Graphic Department of the Art Academy of Latvia (2003). He has organised 17 solo shows and participated in more than 60 group shows and international projects in Latvia and abroad. His work has earned him numerous national and international printmaking awards.
