Turntable Gallery Stand: 124

Nottinghamshire based photographer, who's long term projects are interested in the notions of belonging, place and landscapes. I work with both digital and analogue photography, but my practice is primarily done on analogue.

Her works Longing to Belong is an inquiry into the negotiation of belonging, or more so an investigation into my view of being in and a part of two different cultures, heritages, and landscapes. The visual practice is looking to explore how walking within these two landscapes and reacting to them not only photographically, but also reflectively through accounts of experience, can challenge my personal perception of belonging.

The choice of the Maltese landscape was because it’s been somewhere that I’ve always known is a part of me, but through barriers such as language, and actual geographical distance, it creates a separation that is ever growing, but intriguing. The visual representation of the landscape was about creating responses that resonate with my perception of the country, as well as exploring ways in which one can belong to dual lands. Similarities between both Malta and the UK had a part in deciding where I felt was best to photograph, because ultimately the desire for this body of work is to encompass both places into one.
