Abigail creates distinctive large-scale figurative paintings with sand and acrylic, a process that she has developed and refined over two decades. Her paintings are all carefully crafted transforming sand into heavily textured artworks, with many stages to the creation of each piece. The paintings appear geological, resembling slabs of rock. The intention that they are moments captured in time, which could be from the past, present or future. The anonymous, featureless figures emerge symbiotically from the textured surface. The body language, poses, and the way that the light hits the textured surface create space for empathy and reflection.
