Manchester Art Fair 2024

Gabriella Buckingham

Stand: 850

My paintings are expressions of mood, relationship and colour to bring joy or contemplation wherever you decide to hang my work.

I adore colour and I am fascinated by the portrayal of light and experimental explorations with the painting process. I'm as drawn to still life work where I explore relationships as I am immersive landscape painting rooted in the experience or memory of a place.

With still-life painting I love to observe the subtle changes of shape and colour as light shifts over a setup and I also enjoy completely intuitive still lifes in which I combine some observation with imagined vessels to add more of a story telling element. in 2021 I devised an online art course for budding artists called Experimental Still Life to explore the myriad of possible approaches there are to this subject.

This year I have had two pieces accepted into the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London and one of my paintings was made into a print, the other a greeting card, for the RA shop. A joyful experience for 2023!

I live In North Norfolk with my husband, photographer Tony Buckingham and our two teenagers. My studio is at the bottom of our wild garden that we are slowly taming! We're a few minutes from a restored canal where we swim when it's warm and a ten-minute drive from the sea.

My work been shortlisted for several open calls over the past few years such as the ING Discerning Eye and Figurative Art Now at the Mall Galleries and the Sir John Hurt Prize in East Anglia.
