Karin Friedli
Karin’s paintings explore an emotional connection to nature - whether tranquillity and calm or energy and rejuvenation. She tries to capture the memory of a place rather than a direct observation by exploring the way light falls, the vastness and lines created by open spaces, and changing seasons and weather.
Her creative process is intuitive and tactile as well as experimental and energetic. Working in series and with multiple layers, she aims to reveal the rawness of the landscape by using strong value contrasts, variations in texture, fluctuating amounts of detail, a limited colour palette and free mark making to reflect the light, mood and wonder of a place.
Her work can be seen at the Flint Gallery in Norfolk, Hadfield Fine Art near Cheltenham, Saltbox Gallery in Helmsley and the Moreton Gallery in the Cotswold. Her work has previously been selected for the Society of Women Artists and ING Discerning Eye exhibitions at the Mall Galleries in London.
