Originally from Leeds, Katie Patel is a self-taught artist living in Greater Manchester. She works from her home studio, focussing on exhibitions, projects and commissions.
From capturing a true likeness in portraiture, to creating vibrant acrylic landscapes, urban scenes and abstract pieces, her work is an emotional response to the world she observes and enjoys. Her work is inspired by her local area in Cheshire and Manchester, travels further afield and the time spent with her family.
Katie believes in the powerful and uplifting impact of art, and the important roles that colour and light can play in the resonance felt by the viewer. She seeks images with emotion and atmosphere and, as such, the subject matter of her work varies widely. Painting predominantly in acrylics, using brushes, palette knives and pens, she enjoys making strong, bold marks and lines along with subtle, intricate detail to create energetic contrast. Katie also enjoys using a tablet and stylus to create digital paintings. Allowing work to develop intuitively, the results range from representational to abstract.
