Lily has been working as an artist since 2006, exhibiting widely during that time, and now features in collections worldwide. A resident at Manchester Craft & Design Centre for many years, she now works from her small studio on a sheep farm in Cumbria, just to the north of the Lake District.
The overwhelming drive behind Lily’s work is the sheer love of making – getting messy with paint, paper and glue, whilst enjoying a deep dive into a richness of colour, texture, shape and flow. Beyond that Lily’s aims are simple yet rewarding, to create something someone may take some joy from, working towards capturing some aspect of beauty and balance.
Lily’s paintings usually employ an element of collage material, however rather than found material, Lily uses paper copies of her own painting or printmaking studies. Subject matter tends to take a starting point in nature, as Lily takes great joy in observing the natural world. Her original paintings are often inspired by multitudes in nature (flocks, shoals, gatherings...), in glorified representations.
Alongside original canvases, Lily also designs and makes lampshades, with fabric designs derived from her paintings. Lampshades are made to order, rolled by hand by Lily in Cumbria.
