Nicola Briggs – Contemporary Landscapes & Ceramics

Nicola Briggs is a contemporary landscape artist from Manchester, creating atmospheric semi-abstract paintings and statement porcelain ceramics. Her work explores the subtleties of light, texture and seasonal change, capturing nature’s quiet transitions through layered surfaces and refined tonal palettes.

Nicola's latest series, created for the 2026 Manchester Art Fair, comprises textured contemporary landscape paintings, wall pieces and sculptural ceramic pieces that investigate moments of transformation within the natural world. These works evoke thresholds — between land and sky, stillness and movement, positive and negative space, presence and absence,  — inviting the viewer into a contemplative state of pause, perception and memories.

Working in acrylics and mixed media her paintings are distinguished by delicate abstraction and depth, where colour, mark making and atmosphere merge to suggest landscape without defining it. Her porcelain ceramics extend this language from porcelain wall pieces to three dimensions, with layered glazes and tactile finishes that echo geological formations and shifting light.

Her work can be seen in galleries such as The Polestar Gallery (Keswick), The Old Courthouse Gallery (Ambleside), The Green Gallery (Scotland), Brightwater Gallery ( Alnwick) The Sanctuary Gallery ( Newnham-on-Trent) and Number Four Gallery (St Abbs), her work is held in private collections across the UK and internationally.

Bridging fine art and contemporary design, her practice brings a sense of serenity and sophistication to interior spaces. Collectors, curators and designers are drawn to her ability to distil the essence of the British landscape into artworks of quiet power and enduring elegance.
