North Pennine Studios

Stand: 512

North Pennine Studios is based up high on the Pennine Fells and features the work of three artists living in this dramatic and inspiring environment...

Dominic RIchardson - Dominic was born in 1993 and lives in Alston, the highest market town in England, Cumbria, set within the wild North Pennines. At the age of two Dominic was involved in a road traffic accident that resulted in him acquiring a brain injury, causing right-sided paralysis and partial sightedness. Despite this difficult start, he has pursued his passion for art undeterred. In fact the characteristics associated with his injury have given him the unique and heightened way of perceiving colour and space that is evident in his work. Dominic’s painting style is also unique in that he applies the oils directly onto the canvas with his left hand, mostly without the use of brushes. This generates an intuitive build-up to the layers of paint and atmosphere evident in his landscape works. Dominic exhibits in the North of England and throughout the UK.

Sarah Dalton -  Sarah creates Fine Art ceramics using a range of techniques to create each work. She makes curvaceous, undulating forms as a sculptural surface for her hand-painting of each piece. Works are bisque-fired at over a thousand degrees and then carefully hand-painted with ceramic underglazes, oxides and englobes before a final firing. Evocative landscapes wrap themselves around and within the vessels, or across the ripples of wall-art. Works often portray a sense of open, dreamy distance within the intimacy of delicate hand-held forms. Birds and wild creatures become central characters in some. Wall-art is float-mounted and framed to archival quality. Sarah exibits nationally and has collections in the UK and overseas.

John S -  I am a landscape artist working predominantly in charcoal; often with subtle accents of colour provided by the incorporation of chalk pastels. Living and working high in the  Pennine hills and regularly travelling through the some of the most undiscovered areas of Northern Britain, I have tried to capture the powerful resonance of the landscapes and seascapes that I have witnessed – From dark brews of raw elemental power, blended with the surreal stillness of cold moorland mists; to the enchanting solitude of the most remote coastlines. My work is exhibited at venues across the North of England and throughout the UK.
