MAFA explores memory and remembrance in Stockport exhibition
Following the success of Connections, MAFA returns to Stockport with an exhibition exploring how art can preserve, commemorate and reconnect us with the people, places, objects and moments that shape our lives.
The exhibition brings together the individual perspectives and creative practices of Academy members, inviting visitors to reflect on memory, loss, celebration and legacy, and the ability of visual art to communicate experiences and emotions beyond words.
Founded in 1859, MAFA has a rich artistic heritage, including members who served as official war artists. Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery provides a particularly fitting setting for an exhibition connecting personal memories with shared histories.
Alongside the exhibition, MAFA is collaborating with Stockport's Write Out Loud poets, exploring the question: What do we hold dear?
