Why Do We Need Art

The art buying market has been in full boom for the last few years, especially during and after the pandemic year of 2021. According to the Art Basel (2020) report, there were three main groups of art collectors, which have risen above everyone else and those were accounted to: 40-64 age group (62%), under 40 (19%) and the largest increase  was accounted at the “Millenials 23-28 age where 70% of the art collectors fall in this category.

So what were the main triggers for these young group of collectors to make over 3 million of dollars worth of art purchase?

Well, the main motivation according to Statista Research Department (2023), with over 94% surveyed art collectors, said that they were making the purchase because of the emotional value the art holds for them. Moreover, 65% of the sample indicated that  the social impact and patronage were their driving motivations behind making the purchase. The other groups have focused more on the potential of value and return of investment (63%), social circles and being part of a like minded circles (39%) and finally status and identity (38%).

Why do we buy original artwork?

Do we purchase the particular original art because it is a sound investment for the future for us and our family? Or because it evokes some emotional connection, feelings within?

In reality both of these factors can be viable, right option for you to make the decision, between whether to buy a high quality original art by an up-and-coming young artist or a bespoke framed print by renowned artist??? However, how would you come to a decision on which way to go?

MASA-UK Art Gallery follows the ethos original and relatable. The artwork has to have a meaning for you and you, as a buyer you have to find and see yourself in that particular piece.

Most of the people nowadays are very fixated on the statement of “I love this art work, but I will buy it when or if I win the lottery??”

This although very true sometimes, it is also a very wrong way of thinking. If one is really fond of a particular art, and the artwork evokes a meaning or an emotion, then when bought this could be a winning lottery ticket for the future generation in your family.

For the last 11 years we at MASA-UK Art Gallery have been presenting, promoting and nurturing quite a wide variety of mostly original art collection by artists all around the world. What we have come across is that in our experience the buyers/art collectors motivations have, in general, been classified in two main groups: emotional connection or portfolio diversification.

Most of the customers are making the purchasing decision based on their connection with the particular piece, and then the back story of the artist. We know most of our artists and have formed both professional and personal connection with them, which in turn helps where we can give more qualitative information to the potential buyer. It is that connection buyer-galleries-artist, which we feel forms a trust, interest and appreciation in the artwork.

By making sure the interested parties get as much information as they need, to get familiar with the artwork, artist style, motivation, we help the customer make that final decision and be comfortable that it is the right one for them. And then we go the extra mile. With the client agreement, we are offering a chance for the client to see how the particular artwork looks like in their home environment, even before they purchase it.

We are more than happy to provide the service of taking a particular collection of original art to the clients home. From there between both of us (Gallery and client) we try different combination on the chosen wall/room and see what works specifically for the client. In this way we feel the client will have less stress and pressure in making the purchasing decision and seeing the art at their chosen location, it makes it easier for them to come to a final decision.

Finally, it is true that purchasing original art is a commodity nowadays, however still when and if you are making the purchase if you do not go with your heart, emotions, it will never be the right one for you. We hope to see you at MASA-UK Art Gallery, where we will help you find not the best art, by the most popular artist, but the best art by the best artist specifically for you.
