Born in 1944 in Brook Bottom, Mellor, Roderick Thackray is a distinctive British artist whose deeply personal work is shaped by his early life in a post-industrial landscape and his years in the coal mining industry. Drawing from this rich and rugged background, his paintings often reflect the grit and character of life underground. He is especially known for his use of Pointillism—building striking, atmospheric scenes through countless small dots of color.
In addition to his artwork, Thackray spent years collecting mining memorabilia and recording oral histories from local miners, preserving a vital piece of British heritage. We are proud to represent Roderick Thackray’s work exclusively and to share the raw beauty and quiet strength of his vision with new audiences.
