Jane Evans

Jane Evans is a printmaker based on Anglesey, whose work reimagines the traditional Japanese art of Gyotaku with a contemporary eye. While Gyotaku traditionally focused on monochrome impressions of fish, Jane brings the form into the present with bold colour palettes, layered compositions, and an instinct for visual storytelling.
Her subjects—ranging from real fish to carved lino interpretations, and even leaves or feathers—are arranged with a painter’s sensibility, blending natural detail with modern design. The result is work that feels both rooted in tradition and refreshingly current.
Jane has exhibited at the Royal Society of Marine Artists Annual Exhibition in 2022, 2023, and 2024, where her innovative approach to an ancient craft continues to capture attention.
