In Chinese folklore and religions, Door Gods are pasted or painted onto the doors and gates of residential and important buildings with their job being to block evil spirits from entering. Similar to Foo Dogs, their purpose is to protect those inside from negative energy and encourage the entrance of positive and fortune. I was interested in playing with the guardianship role of the Foo Dogs with the ongoing series of green painting and within the context of my adoption alongside the idea of entering an ominous landscape which looks toward an uncertain future.
