Oil on cradled wooden board

Beneath the night sky, a star-headed figure climbs through the branches in an effort to reach his kin. Balancing ambition with folly, the painting explores the strange and sometimes illogical lengths we go to in pursuit of something we desire.

My paintings are a surreal blend self-portraiture, symbolism and theatrical imagery to create curious, dreamlike worlds populated by familiar yet unsettling characters and fantastical narratives. Exploring themes of identity, memory and performance, my work draws on the absurdity of human experience, I like to examine how we construct and conceal the self, reflecting on the boundaries between authenticity, performance and control.
