GRAND OPENING, GRAND CLOSING depicts a saw blade hanging between a scene of destruction and one of vibrance whilst the protagonist stares into his reflection. It is an illustration of the cyclical nature of life and the two and froing between life and death, love and hate, endings and beginnings. This is emphasised by the use of a circular saw blade, a tool that causes violent and aggressive damage in order to create something with new possibilities or problems to solve. It's circular shape further emphasises the 'cycle of life' being infinite. The use of the character JBOY in a moment of introspection here allows the viewer to relate these ideas in a more personal way. Confronting the idea that (for example) often in life harsh endings will lead to new beginnings (and vice versa).
