Prayer Plant with Terracotta Stripes – Still Life is part of a recent series born from a desire to explore the themes of narrative, survival, and preservation. After watching my own prayer plants struggle to survive through a tough winter, I wanted to document their quiet resilience on canvas to preserve them in all their glory and effectively make them immortal. The custom background is directly inspired by my recent trips to Italy, sitting somewhere right in between minimalism and maximalism—a stylistic, Mediterranean balance that has become central to my creative process and is reflected in the terracotta stripes. By blending the natural vulnerability of these domestic house plants with the story-driven style of my wider practice, I aim to offer a grounded, honest perspective on modern still-life painting. Ultimately, this work marks an exciting next step in my artistic journey as I continue to explore the balance between real-world survival, personal travel, and visual storytelling.
