Surfacing serves as a striking companion to Submerged, shifting the narrative lens to the fragile boundary where land meets water. Perched on a dark, forested shoreline, a lone goat gazes down into a glowing, murky expanse populated by a drifting colony of jellyfish. The composition flips the previous underwater isolation, creating a tense dialogue between the terrestrial witness and the magical, subterranean world swelling just beneath the surface. Rich, swampy ochres and deep forest reds establish an atmospheric, borderline surreal landscape, while the intricate, stark white negative space of the canopy mirrors the skeletal structures of the deep. Rather than an outright conflict, the painting captures a quiet moment of curiosity and foreboding—a visual cross-referencing of life's daily hardships with the mesmerizing, hidden undercurrents of the natural world.
