KAYT HUGHES- North West-based artist, arts producer, curator and educator. Her work focuses on the sensory – informed by their synaesthesia – creating a unique understanding of sound, shape, texture, colour, and mass. Currently, she is working with ceramics and sound production, to capture her synaesthetic experiences as physical gestures and fixed forms.
Hughes is researching the connections between non-verbal communications and object-making: particularly around neurodivergent sensory techniques like stimming. This making is embedded in research around twentieth-century design principles, scientific research surrounding neurodivergence, and alternative pedagogical approaches.
Recent solo exhibitions include: “the art of living / the art of making” at Abingdon Studios and “Thinking About Sonic Objects” at Paradise Works. They received a DYCP Grant from Arts Council England in 2024 and an A-N Artist Bursary in 2025.
