Description:
I am a painter, using my practice to look back and examine what relics arise from exploring themes of memory and time. This includes childhood when time itself felt more gradual. I am interested in connecting these explorations with elements of the natural world, that remind us of our transitory presence on this earth and aim to create compositions that feel uncanny and yet comforting…in the way that an object of a deceased relative might find a place in a modern home and belong in a way that doesn’t quite make sense.
Some of these investigations lead to simplistic, often overlooked or seemingly mundane, subjects that, when highlighted in a painting, gain an unexpected sense of significance and echo with familiarity.
I want people to spend time with the paintings, as they are confronted with a constructed liminal space that is created from memory, reference and imagination. In an era of demand and acceleration, I am looking to make work that encourages a stillness of reflection and nostalgia. When we look at the past, we consider our future.
