The first time I saw Common Whitlowgrass, it enchanted me in its gone-to-seed state. I didn’t know the plant’s name at the time. Early the following spring, I crouched and looked closer at a puzzling peppering of hailstones, only to find that it was this same little plant in bud. Again and again, it pulls me in, calls me to make paintings. Here, in the corner of a car park near my studio, in close.
