Yet language is not everything

Arcade Stand: 207

ink on paper, etched perspex, aluminium frame

This series of works are all pages from Barham's book work oisonous Oysters - with combinations of hand drawn elements, new images, objects and printed, routed or etched perspex. The images are ways to puncutate and annotate the texts. A kind of marginalia.

All the works take their titles from the first line of text on the page.

Left hand frame:
Image etched on perspex: close up of the LEDs in a strobe light.

Right hand frame:
Image printed on page: close up of the chromatophores in squid skin - muscular sacs of pigment that the squid can relax and contract and control the pattern on its skin. Squid use the pattern on their skin for communication and camouflage. This picks up on the ‘looks-like’ and mimicry that I think is like hallucination and like the ‘sounds like’ that the voice recognition software produces
Silicone earbuds are loose inside the frame.
