This oil pastel drawing is part of a personal body of work which shares my own story for the first time. Growing up in Manchester during the 1980’s in unsettled surroundings was challenging but my imagination, siblings, friends and love of nature kept me safe and helped shape the artist I am today. 

Newport Street is a playful exploration of memory, identity and belonging. Drawn from memory and infused with a sun baked colour palette, this drawing celebrates one of my childhood memories of growing up in Rusholme, one of Manchester’s most deprived communities.
