Gherdai Hassell is a multidisciplinary contemporary artist, and researcher based in Manchester, UK. Her work investigates memory and nostalgia to construct and deconstruct identity.  She uses mixed media techniques to thread and weave layers of history and the complexities of Caribbean heritage, post colonial narratives and identity through painting, fashion and collage. Her work typically centers female bodies, simultaneously existing within realms of past, present, and future. Diasporic pasts become re-informed by futures, where the resulting present is experienced as a living “Artifacts”,  or as her ongoing “alibii” figuration, which are both acts toward afrofuturism.
