I had just returned from New Zealand and made a series of small works recording my experiences of space and colour from that atmosphere. My work explores colour, time and space and always begins with colour.  Atmospheric effects on and of colour as light, and as landscape or seascape are unique to different places and utterly evocative and yet universal too.  I am endlessly fascinated by paint’s material capacity to contain or echo such effects, how these parts interact creating cosmic jigsaws of forms of shadow and light in space and how this interacts with memory and sense of place and the layers of how we perceive time.
