This painting reflects my experience as a mother and educator, capturing the emotional and physical complexities of balancing these roles. It depicts how time and space limitations influence my artistic process. Using spontaneous, improvisational techniques, which I call ‘ad-hoc’ and ‘in-betweener’ painting, the work embodies a responsive and resourceful approach utilising whatever materials are on hand. Working intuitively "in the cracks" between other responsibilities, the piece expresses the tension, resilience, and creativity that emerge from these intertwined identities. It challenges both my ideas of what painting can be and my own creative boundaries.

"In the cracks" is a phrase borrowed from Suzie Miller's 2025 play "Inter Alia”.
