Liverpool Biennial is delighted to announce the release of two limited editions by Alicja Biala. The work relates to her 2022 commission, Merseyside Totemy, which addresses the urgent issue of the impact of climate change on Merseyside.

Biala’s Totemy Composition Two etching showcases the geometric patterns found in the public realm sculpture. Biala chose to create the etching plate using the same metal found on the sculpture. The etching has been created using brass colouring, symbolising the rust effect located on the sculptures. This etching celebrates the materials, colours and shapes of its sculptural counterpart within a medium that forms a part of Biala’s practice.

Alicja Biala is a Polish artist working across a range of different media and scales. Biala initially gained attention with her large-scale public paintings, followed by her politically charged Polish Cut-Out series. She has since worked across multiple scales, ranging from architectural sculptures to large interior sculptural lighting, etchings, paintings, and more. Her work incorporates a mixture of themes that bring the political and personal spheres of contemporary life into close proximity. She has received widespread press, multiple awards, and is in numerous private and national collections. Biala is currently studying at Royal College of Art and Royal Drawing School in London.
